Regulations
Article 1. Organization. The Consell Insular de Formentera, the Penya Esportiva Son Marçal club, and Elitechip SL are the organizers of the XV Formentera All Round Trail which will be held on the island of Formentera on March 28, 2026.
Article 2. Event. The XV Formentera All Round Trail is an event that combines two aspects, being both a tourist and a sports event. On one hand, it is a “non-stop” competition, and on the other, it has its recreational side, representing a personal challenge open to anyone with the sole objective of participating in and finishing the event by running or walking.
It is an event that features 5 distances with a character of semi-self-sufficiency, circumnavigating the island of Formentera, and which will take place on March 28, 2026.
The 5 events are: Formentera All Round Trail (72km Puerto de La Savina – Puerto de La Savina), Half Round Formentera Trail (40.5km Es Arenals – Puerto de La Savina), Tros de FART (21km Es Caló – Puerto de La Savina), and the FORMOTOR 12km de FART (12km Puerto de La Savina – Puerto de La Savina).
The race does not have a significant elevation gain, but the constant change of terrain, the topography, the weather, and running next to the sea will make it a tough event that requires good preparation.
Article 2.1.

If the corresponding accreditation license is not presented, the competition insurance must be paid at a cost of €5.
NO BIB NUMBER WILL BE DELIVERED IF THESE MEASURES HAVE NOT BEEN MET
Article 3. Acceptance of the regulations Registration for the event implies full acceptance of these regulations. These regulations will be of strict compliance by all participants of any of the five events of the XV Formentera All Round Trail.
The organization reserves the right to modify, interpret, and change these regulations for the correct development of the event, with the race director, the general coordinator, and the federative judges having the authority to issue a final resolution in case of doubt or interpretation of the regulations.
To check if you are reading the latest version, you should consult the revision section of this document where the date of the last revision will appear.
Article 4. The Race and the Course. The organization will reinforce the specific signage that they consider necessary with flagging tape and specific signage created for the event.
The tapes or additional marking will be made with reusable and environmentally friendly elements.
The route of any of the four distances can be found on the official race website (www.trailformentera.com). Any change or modification to it will be made public through the website, as well as on the Formentera All Round Trail profiles on Facebook and Instagram. The course may be modified for administrative permit reasons.
The course will not be closed to traffic, so participants must exercise extreme caution and respect the traffic code in areas where there is shared use with motor vehicles.
During the course of any of the 5 distances of the Formentera All Round Trail, including the relays, participants must obey the instructions of the members of the organization at all times. Failure to comply with this point will result in immediate disqualification.
The event will be electronically controlled using the Elitechip chip system. Participants will have the tracking chip attached to the back of the bib number, and in the relay modality, they must also carry a tracking chip that must be placed at ankle height. If these systems are not used correctly, the readings may be erroneous. With this system, an online tracking of the passing times of each runner can be made through the checkpoints enabled by the organization.
The organization will place checkpoints along the race to ensure that runners complete the course, in addition to recording the passing times of each one.
The organization will place surprise checkpoints along the course to prevent shortcuts or not carrying the mandatory material during the race. Not passing through these checkpoints will result in time penalties which, if cumulative and repeated, can lead to disqualification.
Taking a shortcut is prohibited and is a reason for disqualification or time penalties. Any complaint in this regard must be accompanied by a photograph or a video that identifies the runner and the point where they are located. If the complaint is successful, it can lead to the disqualification of the runner.
Article 4.1. Formentera All Round Trail – Pairs Operation.
Components: Each team will be made up of 2 components, who must do the Formentera All Round Trail course one after the other, taking turns.
Sections: The relay sections will be each chip checkpoint on the course and located at the aid stations, so each section will have the distance between aid stations that have timing (Es Ministre will not be a point where the runner can be changed). The race will consist of 6 sections, which the team members must complete in a consecutive or alternate way. Under no circumstances can 2 components of the same team run the same section of the course.
Example of sections: Far des Cap: 17.5 km Es caló: 10.2 km (and so on until 6 sections are completed)
Strategy: The teams can individually choose their race strategy, with one of the team members being required to complete at least 2 sections. The runner can freely choose to do these sections consecutively, or alternately with the other team members. There will be no prior list with the order of sections, it will be totally free, you only have to follow the protocol marked in the runner change to register the data in the system. For example: One of the athletes must do 2 sections, consecutively or alternately, and the fitter member will do 4 sections, with member one doing 2 sections and member two doing 4 sections. Or one of the athletes doing 3 sections and the other athlete also doing 3 sections.
Start: The teams will start at 9 a.m. and will have a maximum time of 12.5 hours.
Chip control: All team members must participate with their corresponding individual assigned chip. In addition, a second chip in the form of a velcro strap will be assigned to the team. Thus, the runner who performs the relay during the section must run with two chips, their own and the team’s.
How to perform the relay? The runner who finishes the section will pass over the chip control mats with both chips. Subsequently, the runner must enter the area indicated to make the relay and will hand over the chip assigned to the TEAM to the next relay runner. The latter must pass the chip control again to activate the start of the section for the next relay runner. If it is the same relay runner who continues with the next section, they only have to pass the time control once. It should be remembered that each start/end of a section will coincide with an enabled timing point and will coincide with an aid station, it is NOT allowed to make any relay change at any other point on the course. (in case of injury, or abandonment of a relay runner during the race, duly justified, the rest of the team members will be allowed to continue in the race, but they will participate out of competition).
Article 5. Participation. Participation will be open to all those who correctly formalize both the registration and the payment related to the race modality they choose. In addition, each runner must accept the specific liability waiver document during the registration process.
Likewise, at the time of formalizing the registration, the participant must be aware, accept, and comply with the following recommendations:
Participants must respect the environment in which the event is held and keep the surroundings clean. Therefore, it is prohibited and is a reason for penalty and disqualification to leave any type of waste or residue outside the appropriate containers for such use. The judges may take this measure based on a testimony from any member of the Formentera All Round Trail organization.
The minimum age to participate is 18 years old on the day of the event, and the participation of underage participants is not allowed under any circumstances.
The organization recommends a medical check-up prior to the competition and optimal physical preparation to compete in this ultra-endurance event. The organization reserves the right to prohibit or cancel a registration, or to have a participant withdrawn, if it has sufficient grounds to suspect that the participant does not meet the minimum medical requirements, or has sufficient training to face the different Trails, with the 72 km distance being the one for which a more exhaustive medical control will be ensured.
External assistance will be allowed at the official aid stations of the event. Any external assistance outside these aid stations will be a reason for disqualification. Any complaint in this regard must be accompanied by a photograph or a video that identifies the runner and the point where they are located.
It is absolutely forbidden to run accompanied by people who are not registered in the event for sections longer than 500m or 1000m and will be a reason for direct disqualification. The scope of this rule is throughout the course until reaching the finish line.
All runners, regardless of the distance they run, must wear the bib numbers provided by the Formentera All Round Trail organization at all times on the front of the chest and being correctly fixed to avoid movements that do not allow the identification of the number at a glance, it will be allowed to use a bib belt, as long as the bib is fixed at some point on the shirt, and cannot be cut, folded, or modified, they must also have a communication element (mobile phone, etc.), and above all their personal identification during the course of the race.
The different Formentera All Round Trail events are of a semi-self-sufficiency format, that is, it is mandatory to carry liquid and solid food throughout the course, in addition to other safety elements that are indicated in the corresponding section, the reason being simply that the separation between aid stations is between 10 and 20 km.
Indecorous behavior, misuse of the aid station material, or misuse of the fixed elements of the path, such as barriers or stone walls or other elements, is absolutely prohibited. Inappropriate unjustified behavior will be a reason for immediate disqualification.
The organization will signal or reinforce the most complex areas and, above all, the urban areas, where the marking is more deficient.
Article 6. Cut-off Times Runners will have a time limit for each of the 5 distances that are part of the Formentera All Round Trail. Any participant who arrives late at a checkpoint will be disqualified. It will not be allowed to continue on the course, not even at their own risk, they must hand in the bib number and the chip (in case the chip is reusable) and sign an explicit withdrawal document that exists at each aid station.
IMPORTANT: withdrawal or abandonment of the event is only allowed at checkpoints or aid stations, in case an athlete wants to abandon for any reason, they are obliged to notify the head of the aid station for safety reasons, in case of a vital medical emergency or similar, the appropriate protocols will be activated. For the rest of the participants who choose to withdraw, in case of doubts, they should carefully calculate the distance between aid stations, so as not to force unnecessary limit situations and to have a record of withdrawals in the control center enabled for the event. – These are the maximum times for each distance:
Formentera All Round Trail (72km Puerto de La Savina – Puerto de La Savina): 12:30 hours.
Half Round Formentera Trail (40.5km Es Arenals – Puerto de La Savina): 8 hours.
